Very recently, Emma and I attended a life drawing class in Chester. It was available for all artistic skill levels, and it was in The Old Custom House Inn within the city centre. Attending a life drawing session in a pub was pretty strange, especially hearing the people downstairs drunk singing loudly, but it was still a fun experience. I hadn’t had much experience in life drawing apart from one time when I was studying for my art foundation diploma. Still, despite the awkwardness of drawing someone naked, it was a good learning experience learning the human anatomy.
The session was two hours long, and we could create a handful of drawings of the model in different positions. Some of my illustrations were rough, especially the first one I made, because I hadn’t quite adapted to drawing. But it was good practice in the female anatomy and different media as I felt like I was pretty rusty sketching traditionally as I am so used to the ctrl+z tool on clip studio paint.
I would definitely recommend this to any artist, and I would go to this class again. Even though it isn’t tutored and limited to dry media only, it was a calming way to just take a step back and focus on my drawing skills and not worry about how it looked or how to develop it further. Next time, I would try not to bring as many supplies as I did in the future just to focus on practising a specific media and try not to rush the piece so much and focus on particular details of the anatomy.
