Blender Tutorial - Making a Donut

As I previously mentioned, I contacted an art director who works at Lucid Games in Liverpool earlier this year. We discussed how I could improve upon my work and new skills I could take up learning during the summer and throughout 3rd year. One of the primary skills he said I should learn 3D modelling on software called Blender.
Blender is a free 3D computer graphics software often used to create animated films, visual effects, art, 3D-printed models, and much more. He recommended that I follow this tutorial on YouTube to make a donut within the program. Even though it is a silly thing to start off creating, the art director said the tutorial teaches you the basic fundamentals and all the different tools and techniques that you can use within Blender.

I began following the tutorial, and it was quick and easy to follow whilst entertaining to learn. In fact, to did manage to create a donut with pink icing, and it looked pretty good, I thought, for my first attempt ever at using Blender. However, the next stage was adding the sprinkles to the donut, which was more complicated and not that easy to follow. Luckily, I did manage to create the sprinkles in the end after many attempts; however, when it came to making them in different shapes/sizes, I struggled a lot and couldn’t figure out how the tutorial managed to do it. I don’t know whether it is because I was working on a newer version of Blender where they have changed some of the settings or simply user error.
Unfortunately, I haven’t progressed any further in this experiment, mainly because I was having a hard time following the tutorial and figuring out how to change the sprinkle size, so it put me off working on it. University work has already been so demanding, especially with one-week projects in Creative Design Practice. I would have to put this on the back burner for now and hopefully carry on working on this when I get a chance.
In spite of this, it was really fun experimenting and creating the donut, and I got further than I thought I had, so I’m glad I took some time, in general, to learn some 3D modelling on Blender even though it is an anti-sprinkle donut. I only hope I can continue practising more to start building a portfolio on my different 3D modelling skills.
